The City That Never Sleeps. The city that I love and hate at the same time. One of the first places that inspired me.
In fact it so inspired me, that I could write multiple pieces about New York City alone. The idea of all the late night and morning talk show studios that are there, Radio City Music Hall with its Rockettes, the Empire State Building, World Trade Center you name it. Something about it just felt... larger than life.
This love affair started when I was nine years old and my friend gave me one of those t-shirts that had the skyline of Manhattan and some teddy bears on it after her first trip to New York. Now I wanted to go. (Marketing campaign successful :-) ) And then my first trip to New York. Solo. At 24. It was amazing, terrifying and thrilling at the same time. I'm glad I did it.
Then I went for a second time. Now with more appreciation for the city's different neighborhoods, history and culture.
Some cities can have a hold on us for some reason. Maybe they make you think of all the possibilities that lie ahead. Or the lessons that it's past brought along. Or something else.
